Police Threaten Texas Poker Players
Hi, my name is Heather Zimmerman. My husband Fred and I are the owners of Big Texas Poker Club , a legal memberhip poker club model in Plano Texas.
This week our family owned business was shut down by the Plano police. Clubs like ours have been operational for several years in Austin, and now are open across the state in seven other cities. Until recently, there has been no challenge to the legality of this model, but with Texas clubs under attack we need your help to keep poker legal in Texas.
Throughout the process of opening our business, we have been transparent about our plans with the city of Plano and the police department as we applied for and received our certificate of occupancy. Now Big Texas and another legal club in Plano, opened for a year, received threatening letters from the police stating that they believe the membership poker club model is in violation of Texas gambling statutes. They have not responded to our repeated requests to meet and discuss the allegations.
We need your help fighting this battle so that Texas poker clubs can continue to operate across the state offering a safe, convenient, and LEGAL place to play. Without your help, Texas poker players will be forced to play in expensive, illegal, underground card rooms that are rife with organized crime, drugs, and prostitution or drive or fly out of state to play.
We are making this effort so that women and men, husbands and wives, friends and neighbors can continue to play a card game that they love in a safe, welcoming, and legal environment.
