Bike Lane Posts for Porter Square

Donation protected
We are a small coalition of bikers, not affiliated with any bike advocacy organization -- and we're done with bike fatalities.

After a summer of two deaths from bike-truck collisions in Cambridge (Amanda Phillips, 27, and Bernard Lavins, 60), we've decided to install some of the safety infrastructure we all need.

We would like to raise $650 to buy 15 reflective posts
(a.k.a. delineators or bollards) to protect cyclists in bike lanes in Porter Square, along carefully chosen segments.

We will install the delineators politely -- securely, but in a way that protects the road surface if removed.

We do not blame the City for not doing this sooner -- cities have a lot going on, and have to accommodate a lot of competing priorities. We're just stepping up to help.

We expect Cambridge will respond the same way as SFMTA did recently -- by acknowledging the need and leaving the posts up.

Additonal notes:

Posts will be 36" high, which conforms with Boston bike lane protection standards, and ensures bikes don't clip the posts.
