Power the schools of Puerto Rico!
Donation protected
It took 11 months to restore power to the island of Puerto Rico (a US territory) after Hurricane Maria and outages are still a regular occurrence. This was the longest continuous blackout in US history.
Nobody should have to go without electricity in the United States! It's time that we bring power back to the people.
After many months of effort, my team and I just returned from installing the first SunCrate unit on Puerto Rico at the SU Manuel Ortiz school in Yabucoa. The first unit was donated and allowed up to move as quickly as possible to supply this important infrastructure to a community in need.
The SunCrate allows the school to have a steady electricity supply even if grid power is unavailable. This is done by combining solar panels mounted on top of the unit, with inverters and advanced battery storage inside the container to provide clean power to the school. That means that 140 students, their parents and teachers no longer have to worry if their school has power. Check out the system running to make the school more sustainable and resilient in the video below.
This was a great effort that could not have been done without the contribution of many. It's my fourth trip down to the island since hurricane Maria and I can tell you there is still much work to be done.
It's time to work on getting the next container donated to a school that needs it. Funds will be used to help finance another unit along with any matching contributions of equipment and labor.
I have been working on ways to deliver more units as quickly as possible and your help will greatly accelerate my efforts. There is nothing better than knowing that lights and fans will always work when you need them to. Let's help get this peace of mind to another school and the surrounding community in Puerto Rico.
Thank you for your support! Learn more about the unit at our website (Suncrate.energy).
