Peter J. - Cancer Surgery/Recovery - Medical Fund

Two months ago our tiny little family discovered that we were unfortunately joining the #Fight.     Something no family ever wants to hear in their household.    That horrible “C” word......called CANCER!      Automatically, the worst crosses through your mind and you can’t stop thinking about it.

Peter and I had to come together and take this horrible news seriously and think about what we needed to do.    First off,  we didn’t want Jennifer to know anything until we knew more.     How  on earth do you keep such a secret from your child while maintaining normalcy on a daily basis?  How do you hide behind the excruciating pain of the unknown?

We didn’t waste any time getting to a  Specialist.     A biopsy was scheduled immediately.      It was a very uncomfortable & painful procedure for Peter.      He’s never really been sick before, so he hated the doctor’s office, hated the procedure and was just questioning God.....”why me”???      We went home hoping for promising news.    Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.    His biopsy came back with serious news.     It was recommended that he needed to have radical surgery.      A prostectomy.     This is life altering surgery for a man.

We were sent home with a lot to digest.   A lot of questions.  How do we tell our teenage daughter, is surgery the right decision, how do we pay for this, how long will Peter be out of work, can we keep our daughter in dance????    So many questions.

Fast forward to 5/21/19.   7:34am - I am sitting in the surgical waiting room and the doctor calls my cell phone & tells me surgery has started.    It was so difficult to sit there and wait.    I got a call from surgery every hour, telling me things were fine.    Peter did very well during surgery and spent two days in the hospital.

We are two weeks post-op today.     Peter is slowly recovering.    He is in good spirits but is going stir-crazy wanting to out & about.

We are left with the stress of so many hospital, doctor & lab medical bills.     We are insurance poor.    Yes, we have insurance but between the premium we pay for it and the high deductible, we are upside down before we even start.      The out of pocket for surgery alone is outrageous.

It pains us to have to lean on others, but there is no other way.    We already maxed out our credit card and are struggling.

Peter will be at home and will be able to return to work in about a month.     His sutures are mostly healed; it’s the inside that takes longer.    He is only allowed the lift/carry 5 lbs and needs to be off his feet with resting periods throughout his day.

He is not in a grave state.    He will recover but it will take time and maybe years to be Cancer free.    He will always be looking behind his back, wondering will it come back.

Continued  doctor/Specialist care is required.  PET scan & labs & medications

Please consider helping Peter and our tiny family.    All funding will automatically go toward hospital bills and continued doctor’s care for Peter.      Blessings to each and everyone of you who sees it in their heart to help.     Peter is a remarkable man & very well respected in the NASCAR Community.   He always pays it forward - if you have ever been on the receiving end of his kindness, please bless him back.
