Prayers for Taylor Hamm

Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,

On behalf of Taylor and our family, we would like to thank you for your prayers, personal visits, texts, calls, emails and generous donations. Your emotional and financial support have been invaluable throughout this very difficult period.  Taylor's accident has garnered well deserved public attention with local media coverage from TV news outlets, WSB, and Fox 5 Atlanta. Print media coverage from The AJC and the Gwinnett Daily Post, as well as various web media sources including BET.

To update you, Taylor is now under the care of Emory and no longer at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville. Unfortunately, she remains in a coma, but our family and the medical staff are noticing positive changes in her condition, contrary to expectations expressed by Gwinnett Medical Center. Our family remains hopeful as prayers are being answered. We ask that you continue to pray for her healing and recovery.

We also continue our fight for justice for our baby girl. We recently met with Gwinnet County District Attorney, Danny Porter, at his office to advocate for Taylor. We were assured that, contrary to the news reports, the investigation is still ongoing with the police and the case has not been turned over to his office, and we will be informed when it has been. Unfortunately, this is a slow process and very little can be done to expedite the process.  Taylor's father, Jeff Hamm, has recorded and provided the police and Mr. Porter with several videos detailing the exact area, during the same time of day proving the visibility of the road and its surroundings where Taylor's collision occured. Shockingly, it also includes footage of a similar pedestrian accident which occurred on the same road exactly one month after Taylor’s accident (also uploaded to this update).

We ask for your continued emotional support, prayers, generosity and advocacy. We will continue to send updates as we know them. #prayfortaylorhamm #justicefortaylorhamm

Because there have been quite a few inaccuracies printed and reported on circumstances surrounding her accident, we wanted to use this page as a means to report the facts as we know them to date:

Between 6:00am and 7:00 am on Christmas Day, Taylor was walking on a section of Lawrenceville Suwannee Road, between Old Norcross and Lawrenceville Highway, when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a health care employee of Gwinnett Medical Center, as reported by a local news agency. Taylor sustained a serious head injury as a result of the collision. Prompt response from Emergency responders can dramatically improve any victim’s survival from most traumatic events.

There are reports the driver states someone lunged in front of the automobile (alleged), yet, there is no reported evidence the driver stopped to assess what lunged in front of the vehicle, nor any evidence that the driver rendered any type of aid (alleged).

Even more shockingly, there has been no clear indication the driver initiated or made any attempt to notify or alert emergency responders from the scene, or wait at or anywhere near the scene, despite reporting to police, that someone lunged in front of the vehicle (alleged). Instead, the driver of the vehicle inexplicably continued on to Gwinnett Medical Center, where they coincidently are employed, greater than 2 miles away from the scene of the accident. It has also been reported the driver continued driving to the nearest “safe” location. However, there are multiple areas within a closer proximity that could be deemed “safe” in either direction near the scene, much closer than GMC. (The accident is “officially” pending further investigation, but as of January 14th, there have not been any formal charges issued to the driver of the vehicle.)

Taylor is a self taught artist and a dreamer. After graduating from South Gwinnett High School and attending Valdosta State College for 1 year she changed course and then completed her certification for Medical Assistant at API and most recently started to pursue her dream of becoming an Artist with plans to resume College with art in mind.  She routinely enjoyed long walks alone for serenity, focus, clarity, and creative inspiration.  She was walking from her hotel room nearby, where she was staying thru the holiday. We believe (no way to confirm at this time) she was heading to the Waffle House, near the corner of Lawrenceville Hwy and Lawrenceville Suwannee. She loves Waffle House, and the accident occurred during breakfast hours. We think this is the most likely scenario, largely because that would have been one of very few businesses open in the vicinity of the direction she was walking on Christmas Day.

At the time, Taylor was wearing college campus-type olive green sweatpants, a light grey T-shirt, and a black winter coat with shiny leather stripped detailing. Not a bath/night robe as has been erroneously reported by some unknown sources via a 911 tape replay on a news report. When emergency personnel arrived, she was found without ANY form of identification in her possession. In her possession was her cell phone, which was shattered from the impact, the key card to the hotel where she was staying for the holidays, and a few other personal items. Her small pocket size wallet containing her identification, Bankcard, etc. that she always carried with her has yet to be found.  Despite an extensive search of the area surrounding the scene, taking place over the course of several days and by multiple members of her family. Nor were these items found or returned with her other personal effects from her hotel room or her car.

***If ANYONE in the area on Christmas day between the hours of 5:00am and 7:00am has ANY information or DETAILS, we implore you to share what you know, please call the Gwinnett County Police Department. ***

Our family is so grateful for the prayer warriors who have come to visit, or communicated countless expressions and acts of love, and kindness thru text, tweets, Facebook posts, etc. on behalf of Taylor. She touched so many souls during her time working at places like the Sheraton Hotel downtown, Corner Pub in Decatur, Honeybaked Ham in Perimeter, Regal Theaters at The Mills, just to name a few. We genuinely appreciate any and all positive thoughts and prayers. We are a proud family and have never asked anyone for financial support. Unfortunately, we must accept the fact that mounting hospital bills will undoubtedly continue to rise and take a financial toll. The reality is her medical bills as of this day are astronomical, and will only continue to increase daily due to the intensive care and treatment Taylor needs to stay alive each day while we pray for God’s miracle. We were urged to open this “Go Fund Me” account to help financially by family and friends concerned about the costly burden that could be insurmountable given the cost of Taylor's current medical expenses as a result of several weeks of medical treatment in the ICU at GMC, and further beyond. We appreciate all of you and the support you have offered us throughout this extremely difficult time. Our family is humbled by the love and support we have received from SO MANY people, touched by Taylor’s infectious smile, gentle quiet nature and kind loving spirit. Anyone who would like to help with Taylor's medical expenses can contribute through this page, and we graciously thank you in advance.
