Pregnant and in a Bad Spot

Donation protected
Hi, I am Maureen Elizabeth Farmer.  I am 22, and currently 6 months pregnant.  I am not a single mother, as I have a fiancée, but we have a lot of difficulty now in our life.  He is old-fashioned and a little bothered by asking for help, as he was raised to get it how you can, or do without.  So I am asking, as there is now more to be concerned about than our upbringing or pride.  We need help paying for the bills for care for the baby, stabilizing our housing situation, and getting supplies for the baby (picture of my small baby bump, which will soon be getting bigger I am told).

I really do not like using sites like this, as I am not one for asking for help.  I prefer to be independent and do things for myself as much as I can.  My fiancée is the same.  However, being something of a libertarian, he believes that private charity is preferrable to state charity as state charity traps you in a vicious cycle.  Which is that once you start getting ahead–but usually not enough to truly make it–the state charity says you make too much and cuts you off.  He saw this with his mother who he helped out during the last years of her life, as she could barely get by with what disability provided, but if she got anything outside of that she would have lost the disability.

Now he does not like asking for help at all, as he is sort of old-fashioned and believes in doing for yourself all you can.  But his mother died right before we got together, and along with some other work problems, it put him in a bad spot.  So we ended up in Michigan, where we have been renting a room from someone while we try to get back on our feet (the room in my picture is our room, all 10x10 feet of it).  We thought all was going to be well, and that we would be in a new place by the time the baby arrived.  However, the job he had slows in the winter to practically nothing (he only got an hour and a half the last two weeks).  So he is looking for something else, but the truth is he has limits.  He has a Pacemaker.  Not enough to disable him, so it seems, but enough to prevent him from just taking any type of job.  But combined with other factors, work is hard for him to find (despite having two Associate’s Degrees).

A few days ago, however, he ended up in the hospital, and we discovered that he also now has blood clots in his legs.  Along with the Pacemaker, he has Atrial Fibrillation.  All of this together makes his job hunt even more limited, and now we are not sure of getting out of this place before the baby comes.  But we need too.  It is filthy, with fleas and bedbugs, and the other people also living in this place leave garbage all over, food out, etc..  We do all we can to keep our area clean, but we have no control over how the other people who own the place live.  Further, we are now having problems making the appointments for pre-natal care as we are currently overdrawn in the bank.

So if you can help us, we would appreciate it.  I also am trying to sell my art, through an online shop.  So if you would like to help us, but perhaps want to get something out of it, you could go there and see if there are any designer you would like to buy.  It is here:  KCThreads Artist Shop.  This was one of the things I did to try to keep from needing any outside help, but as of now, I have had no sales there.  So I finally gave in and created this page.

The amount I decided on was essentially based on what ti would cost to get basic supplies for the baby, the cost of the midwife clinic we are using, and a little extra to help stabilize the housing issue (and to pay for a justice of the peace marriage, as we have only not gotten officially married yet due to financial problems).  As I said, I would appreciate any help I can get.  I do not want us to bring our baby into this filthy place where we are, and state charity only goes so far anyway.

Thanks in advance to any who can assist us.
