Sarah Kelley HoMER Conference 2019 in Nassau

I am a 2nd year Postgraduate Research student in the Film & TV department at the University of Bristol, UK (link to research profile ). I am interested in the ideas about traditional Britishness that are represented in the Harry Potter film franchise and the possible implications for conceptions of national identity. My research involves analysing a variety of the films' official publicity and promotional materials (press releases, posters, trailers, merchandise, licensed sites) in order to understand the role that they play in emphasising certain ideas for British audiences. My project also explores the value of this approach in the context of film and cinema history. Much of the existing literature I draw on has been produced by active members of the HoMER network: for this reason it was extremely beneficial to attend the 2018 HoMER conference and to be part of the most up to date discussions on approaches to cinema history (link to conference report ). I would like to continue to learn from and be involved in this community of research. As my project progresses, I would like to share my findings and contribute to this field. The 2019 HoMER conference in Nassau provides an opportunity for me to do this. My proposed paper has been accepted but the location means that I require financial help with travelling and staying there. Currently the cheapest flights are around £600 return (from London) and accommodation is between £240-£320 for the 4 nights I would require. I believe a goal of £1000 would also cover other costs such as local travel and subsistence. I would be extremely grateful for any contributions you might be able to give for this cause, even the smallest amount is a great help. Many thanks in advance.
