At this time, the Campaign for the Preservation of Mission San Antonio de Padua is requesting your financial assistance to complete the State of California's mandated seismic retrofit. Below in summary format are the major points which the Campaign has completed:
1. Began in 2010.
2. Completed Historic Evaluation in 2011 developed five phase plan.
3. Began Phase I in Aug. 2014 completed in Sept 2015, cost $ 3.0 million.
4. Completed Phase II in May 2016, cost of $1.7 million.
5. Completed Phase III in Dec. 2016, cost of $1.4 million.
6. Began Phase IV in Jan. 2017 -- interrupted work in July 2017 due to lack of funds.
7. Local fundraising efforts thru 12-31-2017 has raised $7,631,000 million of which 100% has been invested in the seismic retrofit project.
8. All volunteer Board of Directors, with organizational expenses paid by members of the Board of Directors.
9. Immediate need is for $ 450,000 to complete Phase IV, thereby allowing the mission to continue as a retreat center.
With the complete seismic retrofit & historic preservation of this, the 3rd mission constructed by Padre Junipero Serra in 1771, it will remain open to the general public and continue to serve elementary, high school & university students as they study early California history, science camps and architecture & archaeology majors at the university levels.
As a California Historical Landmark # 232, the preservation of this historical monument is reflected thru the tremendous efforts of a dedicated board.
