Heal South Chicago's Gun Violence
Donation protected
We are Pride Roc, a nonprofit whose Fiscal Sponsor is GoodCity. We run a Gang Rescue and Refinement program whose goal is to end the violence in Chicago by reforming those at its core. We target active shooters and those being shot at in Chicago’s south side, Englewood community and give them trauma therapy, life coaching, job training/ job placement, housing assistance, educational, legal, and family support.
The first step of our process is the Passage. It is a nine day extraction from the community environments that created them into our trauma informed process. While on Passage Passengers do the following:
· Receive Trauma therapy from Mary Jo Barret, a social worker specialized in treating complex trauma and founder of the Center for Contextual Change
· Are instructed in transcendental meditation
· Participate in daily restorative justice circle dialogue
· Participate in daily instruction of yoga postures
· Are educated on health and nutrition
· Participate in a daily regimen of physical fitness training
· Experience music enrichment (open mic, spoken word, rap performances, writing, music production)
In December 2017,we completed passage 1.0. The 19 passengers who participated are currently being fully engaged by life coaches in many aspects of their lives including transitional job placement, education opportunities, continued therapy, and legal/family support. With your help we can do Passage 2.0 within the next month. Funds donated will go to food, transportation, Passenger stipends, lodging, insurance, staff, materials, and security. The cost per Passenger is approximately 1,600 vs the 22,000 tax payers pay annually per inmate.
