Prison.Church exists to establish, empower, and encourage the Church behind bars.

Our goal is to establish missional, inmate-led Christian Churches within the prison system. We want to partner with and encourage them as they reach the spiritual and physical needs of their community. We believe that peer-rehabilitation is effective rehabilitation, and we want to support and encourage the local Church within the prison community to be the driving change behind bars. From Salvation to (re)Intregation, Prison.Church members are on the ground and best situation to reach to their fellow inmates in physical and spiritual need.

We establish, empower, and encourage in a variety of ways. Here are a few…

Supporting. Both financially and physically, we want to make sure the Church in the prison system has the means to meet the needs of the yard and provide basic necessities to everyone who is in need. Sometimes something as simple as a bottle of shampoo is enough to gain the ear of a lost and searching inmate. We want to provide the Church inside with that opportunity.

Writing. Sometimes the difference between successful rehabilitation and a life spent in and out of prison, is a simple encouraging relationship. We want to make sure all of our Prison.Church members in the system have a solid support system. We will match outside mentors with approved inmates to insure that our brothers and sisters have someone on the outside praying for them, writing them, and mentoring them.

Visiting. There are several beneficial programs and services inside the prison that assist greatly in the rehabilitation process. These can range from resume writing and toastmasters class, to church on Sunday and discipleship classes. While most of the programs are ran by Prison.Church members in the system, we want to make sure our brothers and sisters on the outside get to support and take part in these events on the inside. We also want to give volunteers with the heart to do so, the opportunity to introduce new classes, studies, and programs into Prison.Church.

(re)Integrating. 76% of inmates in the prison system will get out one day. We want to make sure they are set up for success. There are a range of programs in our local community designed to assist prisoners reintegrating back into society. Many inmates simply do not know about them. Partnering with halfway houses, workforce training, local ministries and felon friendly employers, we want to make sure our Prison.Church members have a smooth reentry into society. We want to drastically reduce the unfortunate recidivism rate.

Volunteering. We want YOUR gifts, talents, and passions to benefit this ministry in anyway that fits with our mission!

Encouraging. Prison can be a lonely place.  It can be a discouraging place. Jesus expects us to visit those behind bars, regardless of their crimes. Prison.Church exists to encourage our Christian brothers and sisters in Christ. This encouragement could be corresponding with approved Prison.Church members from the outside or visiting them on the inside. Whether it’s letter, bible studies, worship services, board games, leadership classes or volleyball, our encouragement knows no boundaries.

All this is done in the name of Christ. Not because we are trying to rescue them or be some kind of super hero, but simply because Christ rescued us when we couldn’t save ourselves. Helping others who are in great spiritual and physical need is the only logical response.
