Project Trauma Support Cohort Camp

Donation protected
At this point, most of you know that I have PTSD.

It has been a rough few years for my family and I but recently, things have started to get better. I owe this to a single factor; connection with others who are struggling.

This past December, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a 5.5 day residential, experiential treatment camp for Military and First Responder personnel in Perth, Ontario. This camp literally saved my life.

The camp is run by an organization called Project Trauma Support. This group was started by an ER/family physician after a paramedic coworker of hers died by suicide.

Attending this camp helped me way more than the thousands that have been spent on weekly therapy sessions. Don't get me wrong, my weekly sessions have been extremely helpful, but my condition makes progress quite challenging.

This camp is based on newer treatment modalities; connecting with others, your mind, your body, and nature - as opposed to conventional Prolonged Exposure Therapy and treatments that can actually re-traumatize people.

This program is supported by two physicians and a psychologist and there is concrete evidence to support it's efficacy. Lives are being saved.

In Canada, we lost 63 Military and First Responder personell last year to suicide (http://www.tema.ca/suicide-statistics). We need to lower this number.

Three camps were run last year for women and men from across our beautiful country. Since then, alumni have started Peer Support Groups in Smiths Falls, Kingston, Ottawa, and Fort McMurray. We've also got more on the way!

One of the challenges now being faced, to keep this program going, is funding. The cost per participant is around $5,000.

Again, let me say that this camp saved my life. It has given me and my family hope that I can one day beat this PTSD.

Please help me raise the funds to send one participant to a camp that will tentatively be hosted this coming April.

Thank you all, so much, for even reading this story.

All my best,

Rob
