Giving Five beautiful girls a prom
Donation protected
A High School Fairytale Foundation
Every year around January and February people start to talk about prom. Questions like who's going with who and who's wearing what frequently come up. Prom is a pretty big deal for a lot of people. It's a day where people are able to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments, dress up, and enjoy time with their friends. It is at prom where people come to the realization that they’re closing a big chapter in their life and starting a new one. Some people dream of that day, others actually get to experience it.
For the past three years, I’ve tried to find ways to help out girls who don’t have the adequate financial resources to go to prom. To date, I’ve only been able to provide dresses to some of these girls. This year, however, I want to try something different. I not only want to provide dresses, but also do other things like girls’ makeup and hair. I decided to share my thoughts on Facebook to get a sense of how many girls need help, and the response I got was overwhelming. I actually received messages from other people who want to support my initiative and donate dresses and/or some of their time to help out girls with their makeup and hair. It was at that moment that it hit me - because there are so many other girls that want to do the same thing as me, why don’t I partner with them so that we together can help a few girls’ dreams come true?
So far I've been able to gather a group of girls who will be responsible for being the fairy godmothers of the prom queens. We have a total of three makeup artists, a hairstylist, a manicure-pedicure specialist, a fashion designer and stylist, and photographer. The fashion designer will be donating three customized dresses to three of the five girls participating in this project. The photographer will be taking pictures of all the girls throughout the process and at prom so that they can have visuals of their special night.
The five girls who have been chosen to participate in this project come from three different high schools in the Greater Boston area - Brighton High School in Brighton, TechBoston Academy in Dorchester, and Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover. These girls have been chosen by their peers and staff at school.
Although we have people who are willing to help, we do not have the adequate financial resources to cover all the expenses for this project. This is why we’ve created a GoFundMe account - to help raise money for the girls’ shoes, prom tickets, and transportation to and from their prom. The goal is to raise $1,200. We hope to have this money raised by May 15, 2017 so that we have enough time to prep the girls. If you would like to be part of something special, please click the link below to donate. All donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much to those who’ve donated already and to those who plan on donating. Together we can make this project a huge success. Again, thank you so much!
