Protect the Carver Road Community

I am one of many homeowners in the Carver Road area of Haymarket/Gainesville, being devasted by high voltage electric overhead transmission lines that Dominion Energy is proposing to install through our community to serve enormous data centers. As the Post reported on July 2, 2017, our community consists of mostly elderly African American residents, whose ancestors bought property during the era when freed slaves had first been allowed to purchase land.
This is devastating for us whose property and quality of life is being put in the crosshairs of a giant corporation, Amazon, for the sole purpose of private gain. In addition to the devastation of lowered property values and property taking, Amazon will not pay for installation; the community will have to pay for the lines. This is highly unusual and a unique situation potentially consisting of civil rights violations and environmental justice issues.
The Carver Road Community is desperately in need of legal representation to file a motion in opposition to the Virginia State Corporation Commission's order to allow Dominion Energy to construct power lines and a substation along Carver Road in the Haymarket/Gainesville area. The deadline for motions is July 13, 2017. All background information on this project can be found in a Washington Post article and at www.protectpwc.org.
Any funds donated will be used to support Protect the Carver Road Community, a new organization formed in response to this travesty, consisting of residents along Carver Road and adjoining Old Carolina Road, to finance the initial motion. Following the July 13 motion, funding for attorneys will be needed to future litigation in response to opposition from Dominion.
All funding received will be greatly appreciated by all the residents of the Carver Road community.
