School Supplies Drive
Donation protected
Hi all!
So as some of you may know, Phi Theta Kappa, the honors society at Santa Fe College, has organized a school supplies drive for children in Gainesville, Fl who cannot afford school supplies.
The recent census shows that 1 out of every 4 children in Gainesville is living in poverty. When I spoke with school guidance counselors in the area, I was given some information that really shocked me. They told me that some of these childrens' families cannot afford to provide their children with backpacks. These children must walk to school carrying all of their supplies in their arms, sometimes for miles. Others cannot afford every day necessities such as pencils and paper. Some of these children cannot even afford underwear. After getting off the phone I realized the extent of this situation and the need to organize the community to help these kids.
Children are the future of our community and we would love for every child in Gainesville to have the tools they need to succeed. However, a lack of adequate school supplies is a HUGE challenge to this goal.
We are now accepting doantions to help make a difference in these childrens' lives. Anything helps, and donations would be put towards the purchase of backpacks, penicls, paper, jump drives, art supplies, and other school supplies that they desperately need. Thank you everyone for the support!
