Kidney Transplant expenses

Donation protected

Hello friend,

My name is John Tenorio, and I reside in Cañon City, Colorado. This summer, I received a stage 5 kidney disease diagnosis, owing to a lifetime of living with Type I diabetes for more than 30 years. Stage 5 is also known as end-stage renal disease, and as such, I am being evaluated for a kidney transplant in order to extend my life. Patients on the deceased donor transplant waitlist can spend years waiting for an organ, and patients like myself are more likely to die while waiting.

I am currently on the deceased donor transplant waiting list at the University of Colorado in Denver. Please see the end of the post if you are interested in being evaluated as a potential living kidney donor at the University of Colorado, so that I can be taken off the deceased donor waitlist. Freeing my space up on the waitlist means everyone moves up the list! I am also close to being listed on the deceased donor transplant waiting list at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland

I am a father and a grandfather  Receiving a new kidney would give me renewed energy to spend quality time with my family and play with my grandchildren.

I like sharing meals with my family and friends, but one of the most difficult aspects of end-stage kidney disease while living with type I diabetes are the dietary requirements. Large amounts of sodium, potassium, phosphorus, and added sugars can be found in many foods available for purchase. Everything processed or frozen is off limits, as are beef and potatoes. Needless to say, a healthy diet adds an additional cost on top of the medical costs that come with kidney disease. I cannot wait to enjoy more of the foods I love when I get a new kidney, especially Hamburgers and French fries and all potato .

Your contributions will go toward paying for:

* Travel to/from Denver or Baltimore for the transplant and follow-up appointments

* Lodging for up to one month post-transplant and additional lodging for follow-up appointments

* Local ground transport to get to all appointments

* Lost wages to help with bills during surgery and recovery

* Healthy meals to help prepare my body for surgery and recovery

Interested potential living donors who reside in or near Denver can call [phone redacted] to begin their evaluation. They can also go directly to the living donor website, www.UCHealthLivingDonor.org to complete the initial inquiry. Please contact me through this GoFundMe page if you need information to fill out the web form properly.

Thank you for your thoughts, support, and generosity,

John Tenorio
