Finish the challenger

Donation protected
This 1970 Dodge Challenger is privately owned but being rebuilt in a High School Auto Tech Class.  As with many projects the scale of work required and cost has far exceeded original plans.   This has led to a much longer time frame than originally expected.  It has been in the shop for nearly four years now and it would be great to see it finished while some of the students that started the project are still around to see it done.  The major problem is a lack of money to buy the needed parts.

What has been done by the students so far.

Engine

The engine currently in the car is a junkyard build 360 magnum. The only new parts in this engine are the head castings (Mopar R/T magnum), oil pickup tube, and gaskets. It was disassembled and put back together with a combination of used performance parts and stock parts.

If this go fund me goes well I will up the amount to build a new one. We are doing engines this year and will build a 408 stroker with aluminum heads if the money can be raised quickly.

Transmission

The junkyard theme continued to the transmission where two 46re transmissions were combined to build one functional unit with a mechanical speed sensor output.  A custom built trans cross member was built and the engine was set back slightly to allow this transmission to fit.

Brakes

The front drums have been replaced with factory style disc brakes.  The rears have been repaired.

Front suspension

The front suspension has had all bushings replaced with new urethane pieces.  Worn steering and suspension parts have been replaced.

EFI and overdrive conversion.

The car currently runs and moves with a 96 Dodge Ram EFI and Transmission control system.  This was made from several junkyard wiring harnesses.  It runs fairly well but needs to be tuned.

What’s left.

Rear axle and breaks.

Drive shaft that wasn’t shorted at the school. (It moves the car at the moment though)

Interior wiring and parts

Body Work/Pannels.

Paint

Many more small things.
