We have a story to share…
We are entwined in an epic battle, David vs. Goliath, and as we sprint, on a wing and a prayer, to the finish line of saving our church we are reaching out for donations to help support our legal endeavors.
The Friends of St. Frances X. Cabrini, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed in 2004 to save our church, located in the seaside town of Scituate, MA, from being sold off and bulldozed.
Since October 26, 2004, (for over ten years and five months) the St. Frances parishioners have held a 24/7 peaceful and prayerful vigil within our church. Our goal has been to keep our vibrant, faith-filled church open. The church that we, the St. Frances congregants, through donations, time, talents and treasures had built and maintained for the past fifty years.
From the onset of our vigil we have sought a fair, equitable and prayerful solution for both the Archdiocese of Boston and our faith community. We have repeatedly pleaded for meaningful, open and honest dialogue with the Archdiocese and its decision makers. That has never happened.
Now, ten and a half years later, the Archbishop of Boston has taken us, The Friends of St Frances X. Cabrini to court. The Archdiocese is calling us trespassers in our own church. Again, the church that was built, paid for, and maintained by, the people of St. Frances. Now the Archdiocese is utilizing the legal system in attempt to remove us from our spiritual home. Yes, it is valuable property, there are 30 acres of prime coastal land that surround our church. From the beginning, we have proposed the sale of the majority of the land, 25+ acres, keeping only the church, parish hall and parking lot.
The Friends stand ready and prepared to meet this latest challenge but need your help. We intend to take advantage of every legal avenue and process available to fully defend this civil legal action brought against us by the Archbishop and Archdiocese of Boston. This is not what we want to occur; our goal remains to reach a “peaceful, prayerful” resolution but the reality of the day is we are now in court.
If you can help in any capacity it will enable us to complete this journey, exhausting all levels of recourse to keep our church!
The St. Frances faith community is eternally grateful and will never forget the outpouring of support, prayers and compassion.
