My name is Kevin Yearwood and I've been a quadriplegic as the result from an accident that happend 30 years ago.  It's really by the grace of God  I continue to live.  However, in order to live daily life, that is to get up out of bed and function with a sound degree of quality of life, I need an electric wheelchair that is able to tilt and recline.  Unfortunately  these are necessities and are not really an option if I am to continue leading an active, functioning lifestyle.  It is a lifestyle I had been regularly living until a recent event alerted me too  a real problem.

I do have such a wheelchair in mynm  possession however here's what happened; I was in my driveway about three months ago and my wheelchair got stuck in the gravel right as a rainstorm came out of nowhere and drenched me, my wheelchair and all of its on board electronics including and especially the joystick controller.

Medicare and or the ACA will not purchase me another wheelchair because it does not fit into their budgetary guidelines.  I am Only  allowed to have a wheelchair purchased through Medicare every five to six years. Well,  at least that's what the Medicare guidelines used to be before the ACA !  Now, they don't seem to even do that much as I am seen as an expendable expenditure LOL !  It's nice being seen as expendable, thank you Federal gov't!  I'm currently in my 3 1/2  too fourth year of ownership of this particular wheelchair.

For 3 1/2 months the status of my electric wheelchair was that it is sitting in the hallway, dead.  I do have a  local wheelchair vendor/service responsible for the service of my chair.  They were notified the day after this event took place.  "Two weeks" later a servicemen looked at my chair.   Two weeks  after that they claimed the vital electronics necessary for repairs had been ordered by them.  After waiting  a while hoping something was being done,  I contacted them another month later and they backtracked and said they hadn't ordered the parts but rather were waiting for paperwork/fax from my Dr. validating that I was still a quadriplegic (completely ridiculous).

When it became obvious to me that they were being less than straight forward with me I asked them to explain to me exactly where they were in the process of getting my chair fixed. They said at this point they had to wait 2 to 4 days to get Medicare approval. Then, if they receive Medicare approval they will order the vital electronic parts which will take 10 to 15 days to get to them and then it will take up to 30 days to install the parts!  I called them several times to check on the status of when they might  begin my repairs  only to be put on hold and given over to a voice mailbox to leave a recording.  They didn't return my calls for quite some time.

During the entire process of trying to acquire their service I was 95% housebound and confined to bed for the better part of everyday for the three months. Let me clarify exactly what I mean; I do have a Manual push chair that I can only tolerate sitting In for three  hours at a time because it does not allow me to tilt or recline In order to get  the weight off of my butt.   Being a quadriplegic, I  do not have the strength to push my weight up in the air with my arms and do a weight shift manually.  Doing regular weight shifts throughout the day is crucial to my health and skin integrity.  This is why I continue to need a tilt and reclinine chair that enables me to do weight shifts throughout the day.  By having a reliable if tilt and reclinine
chair it allows me to stay up for the better part of an average day and enables me to have some measure of independence like an able-bodied  person .

Meanwhile , my wheelchair state in my  hallway dead and wasn't looked at by the repair service providers over three months!

I believe God has given me a better idea.  Rather than remain in bed and housebound hoping for the bureaucracy to  tell me they will or will not fix my chair, how about I become proactive and attempt to get privately funded through gofundme.com for me to be able to purchase a "backup chair"  so that I will never ever again be put in the position of needing to depend on the severely limiting Medicare/Obama-care bureaucracy  or incompetent service providers, neither of whom express any personal interest in my continued health and well being.

I would much rather diligently pray in the name of Jesus Christ for God's mercy in this endeavor and call on the kindhearted generosity His people/The Church Body and all of the rest of the great American's who contribute towards making this country the wonderful place that it is!

Attempting to purchase a backup used a chair from the newspaper or Craigslist is not an option unfortunately because wheelchair service providers will not service  used electronic wheelchairs.

It's become painfully obvious that I need a new tilt and recline wheelchair to serve as my backup should a problem such as the one I am experiencing right now happen again. However, I live on a fixed income and simply do not have the type of money it requires to purchase a new tilt and recline electric wheelchair.

I would be ever so humbled and  so, so  grateful for anybody or everybody to help fund my life by helping me to purchase a new backup electric wheelchair so I can get back to living life beyond being dependent on a bureaucracy calls me a number and that does not care.

Lastly,  and most importantly, through your loving generosity, I will  never have to experience being without an adequate tilt and reclinine wheelchair due to one of them being out of service.

Thank you so much for your time and God bless you all.
