Beca Don Jesús Figueroa
Donation protected
Beca Don Jesús Figueroa is a scholarship fund to help university-level clarinet students at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico buy professional clarinets, music, and attend ClarinetFests. I have taught at the CMPR in San Juan, PR since 1975, and can tell you that the talent is phenomenal! However, the families of the students aren't always able to buy the instruments and music their children need: putting food on the table and paying the electric bill are the first priorities. So, the scholarship fund was set up about a year ago as a non-profit corporation; the kids gave concerts and worked very hard at fund-raising activities (like selling jewelry made from reeds!!) and in July of 2014 the CMPR (16-member) Clarinet Choir played at ClarinetFest in Baton Rouge, to rave reviews!
This year's priority is helping several needy students buy good instruments. We would love to have your support! At some point we even hope to make a recording of the Choir.
Thank you!!!! I am their teacher, Kathleen Jones, Principal Clarinetist of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. Every penny of donation goes to the kids--there are no administrative costs charged to the scholarship fund. Gracias!!
