Climbing=Self Esteem in Kids
Donation protected
If you ever get an opportunity to see the way these kids light up like I do you will understand why I do what I do. I have many stories of shy introverted kids who flourish when they succeed after failing time after time.
One of my most recent memories was of a young man whose home life was less than ideal, his school attendance was rapidly decreasing. He didn’t even want to go on a climbing trip with me, but I worked out a deal with his school counselor to get him out of detention and onto the rock. As the day began he was uninterested, unmotivated and content to just sit on a rock and let the day’s activity pass. By end of day he was smiling, laughing and encouraging others to succeed.
Want to know more....... get involved, sponsor a kid, and come on a trip. This is where positive development can begin. Climbing is an avenue that unites and brings us together. If you don’t believe me come see for yourself, the transformation is breathtaking.
Low confidence is a huge problem in many children. It takes a little effort and connection to turn it around.
We want to build Project Ascent to give children an opportunity to build self-confidence and worth through rock climbing. Facilitating an avenue for kids to succeed and fail in a controlled environment without judgement or bullying from peers. Climbing challenges and helps push beyond the obvious answer and practice problem solving and critical thinking in a hands on environment.
We have an obligation to not forget the development of youth today who do not have the means or availability to fit in with conventional sports and activities.
We work with churches, schools, and detention centers to identify youth and children in need of alternative or additional support to help facilitate positive development as they grow and develop into the future leaders and role models.
