2014 is the Year of the Horse and the Cowley's have persevered to keep and maintain their historic "Rafter Six" branded Horse Herd throughout the hardships of losing their beloved Rafter Six Guest Ranch in 2014 after 38 years.
Since Rafter Six Ranch Resort officially closed its doors to the public on January 1st, 2014, the Cowley's "Cowboy'd Up" and reopened for Horseback Riding and Camping in May 2014 on the land adjacent to the original location and continued to do what they have always done ~ Horses & People!
The unique, colorful and historic "Rafter Six" branded Horse Herd was 85 horses strong in 2012 and has been whittled down to just 38 horses in 2014.
Adopt A Horse will assist in preserving the health, breeds, color, spirit and heritage of this unique blend of horses that have provided countless thousands of people worldwide with treasured Horseback Riding experiences in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Every dollar contributed goes directly to maintaining the "Rafter Six" horse herd with hay, feed, mineral supplements, veterinary care, farrier care, grazing pasture and transportation costs to and from Winter and Summer pastures.
In today's world, costs mount up quickly and your help is needed to maintain the Horse Herd in order to be able to re-open for horseback riding again in May 2015 in the Canadian Rockies.
The Cowley's aren't asking for a hand-out... just a hand-up!
With Your generous support, this unique Horse Herd will continue to be there to share with you the enjoyment of horseback riding in the Canadian Rocky Mountains!
Meet the Family of"Rafter Six" Horses!
~ 1 month old "Canadian" purebred horse named "Brillante" oversees the future of the Cowley's New Rafter Six horseback riding facilites.
Video ~ Watch "Brillante" the filly as she kicks and runs with the joy of being alive in the alpine pasture of the Cowley's New Rafter Six. Brillante's name follows a musical theme passed down through her bloodlines. The Italian musical command brillante is an indication to play in a brilliant, lustrous manner; to make a song or passage stand out with brilliance. We believe she is that special!
~ Jake is a 15 year old Appaloosa gelding and is a Superstar with the kids!
~ Daisy Cowley training "Donkey" to ride! Eveyone including Donkey is carrying some weight these days!
~ Rafter Six Wedding October 2014 ~
"I wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to all of you at Rafter Six Ranch. Our ceremony was absolutely beautiful and so much more than we could have hoped for. We fell in love with the area, as well as the Cowley's and Rafter 6 'family', as did all of our guests.
You guys have something so special and unique out there, that doesn't come from a particular building or structure or location, it comes from the heart. I think no matter where the Cowley's are - it will become the most beautiful place to be, because that's what you all bring into it." K & E
~ Kateri Cowley with purebred "Canadian" mare "Sonata" and her five month old filly "Brillante". These gentle yet strong horses are carrying along a musical legacy in their names. Sonata's mother is also a Canadian purebred mare named "Melodie".
~ Mountie's Babies ~
Mountie, Rafter Six's prized purebred Canadian Stallion has sired 5 of these 6 Rafter Six Horses.
(from right to left) Pearl, Captain, Fifa, Mozart and Roper. Gypsy, on the left and no relation to the Mountie Clan, rolled in several years ago to join the Rafter Six herd in a gypsy caravan! (Ok really, the Rafter Six horse trailer!)
~ Captain ~ A Mountie baby and handsome dapple grey gelding getting ready for the 2015 trail riding season.
~ Partner is a good looking and athletic horse, just coming into his own as a fine trail riding horse and one of our wrangler's Todd, most trusted mount.
~ Roper is destined to become a great horse for many riders in the years to come thanks to his kind and gentle spirit! And he looks good in black just like Johnny Cash!
~ Mozart ~ A True Masterpiece from the Creator
Born in the Summer Rafter Six Ranch hosted the CPO's (Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra) musical festival "Mozart On The Mountain" and he loves music and can carry a tune and a conductor without skipping a beat, at least Mozart of the time!
~ Fifa is a colorful dapple grey and born during the 2010 World Cup of Soccer, this pretty, solid and strong mare mountain horse is training to become the next leader in the sport of trail riding,!
~ Melodie is another Rafter Six purebred Canadian mare who is the mare of Sonata and grandmare of Brillante! Canadians Rule eh?!
~ Chip is a Black Clydesdale and the heavy hauler of the horse world, generously pulling the historic Rafter Six Concord Stagecoach and Budweiser wagon in parades and many guests at Rafter Six on the grand ol' hay wagons!
~ Drake too is a Black Clydesdale and is Chip's team mate in pulling the historic Rafter Six Concord Stagecoach and Budweiser wagon in parades and many guests at Rafter Six on the grand ol' hay wagons!
