I need help affording medically necessary surgery

Hi everyone! My name is Jeremy, and I’m a 21 year old trans man from Florida. I have been on testosterone for 1 year and have been “out” to close friends and family for at least a few years before that. I had top surgery with Dr. Garramone in late 2018 which helped alleviate a lot of dysphoria surrounding my chest, something I was obviously very uncomfortable with. Even before my first surgery I had already made the decision to undergo the process of bottom surgery. Transition is different for everyone but, for me personally, my dysphoria is debilitating and something that affects me in all aspects of my life, even day to day activities. I truly cannot even express how much mental pain I have been in over the last few years, trying to cope with coming to terms with my gender, while also vehemently rejecting my current body and aspiring for a different one. As somebody who struggles with severe depression and gender dysphoria this has been a huge obstacle in my life for years. This is a surgery that, out of pocket, would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars; paying for it without insurance really is not an option at all, and so I am waiting until 2019 to get on an insurance plan with my workplace which will allow me to have it. However even with insurance covering a large portion of it, there is still tons of additional costs that need to be covered, which have to come directly from me. I have been saving for this ever since I had the opportunity to, which was shortly after I had top surgery. Still, I am nowhere near my goal, as I work a part-time job with only as much hours as I can really handle right now with my current mental health. I have cut as much expenses from my life as I can to afford this and save as much as I can; meaning, my hobbies, any frivolous shopping, eating out, selling old things along the way to make extra cash. Even with all of those sacrifices I still need help.


Right now my current goal of $15,000 is an estimate of what I imagine my out of pocket expenses will be with this surgery. For reference, these costs will include the following:


Travel expenses (via car/plane, depending on which surgeon I choose, for me as well as any caretakers as I can’t ask them to pay for themselves to come take care of me)

Hotel/Airbnb (for my recovery, I will need to be bedridden for four weeks, which means an entire month of hotel/airbnb costs.)

Food, basic necessities costs for the four weeks

12-16 months of electrolysis hair removal on graft site before surgery

Hysterectomy

Actual surgery costs

Pain prescriptions/medicine

A small amount of emergency funds in case of complications


I realize that this is a huge amount of money and I do not expect by any means to reach my goal, even though I’ve allotted enough time to reach it, since this isn’t something that will happen until probably early to mid 2020. Still, I thought I would throw up this campaign in case anyone would like to donate to me and help me out with this incredibly important procedure. I want to make it clear that this is not cosmetic, this is a life-changing gender affirming surgery I really need in order to feel comfortable in my skin. Thank you so much for reading!
