Raising Money For Furloughed Workers
Donation protected
Hey guys,
So as you know, the govt has been shut down for 32 days at this point. While we might not think this affects us because we likely don't work in the govt, it doesnt mean that it isnt having disastrous effects on the lives of countless hard working Americans who are now having trouble making ends meet. We were alerted to a piece on the Washington Posts website that specifically spoke to two women, Faye Smith & Yvette Hicks, both of whom work for Museums in DC. Both women have been essentially unemployed for something beyond their control - they are the unintended victims of the Presidents war on immigration. Rather than donate to a faceless charity or foundation, Wael and I set out to find these women and donate to them directly.
I will be bartending at a local cocktail bar in NYC on Saturday night with the proceeds going directly to these women. A lot of people asked how they could get involved if they didn't live in the area or couldn't make it, so we set up this gofundme for those who want to help them.
We were able to connect with Faye and Yvette this morning and are looking forward to being able to help them get back on their feet in this time of need.
Both media clips are below for those who want more information!
