Rebekah's Continuing Yoga Ed Fund

Hi! Welcome to my GoFundMe campaign and thank you for visiting.

My name is Rebekah and I am currently a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance and work as a Montessori Assistant preschool teacher and Children's Yoga instructor at Magic Lantern Montessori in Seattle, WA. I have worked, in some capacity, with children since I was about ten years old and began teaching while going to The Evergreen State College and haven't stopped since. I graduated from Evergreen in June 2008 with a BA emphasizing in Child Development and Education. Since graduating (which seems like forever ago), I have worn many hats in the field of education: I've been a tutor, program coordinator, Outdoor-ed instructor and coordinator, co-teacher, assistant and lead preschool teacher, Adult Yoga instructor and finally (and new and exciting) a Children's Yoga instructor.

Teaching is my passion. I often am blown away that I get paid to do the thing I love. It is my driving force; teaching helps me to learn and grow and thrive. And I think that I have finally found the exact teaching trajectory I am to follow: using Yoga and (eventually) Integrated Movement Therapy (IMT) when teaching preschool-aged children. Not only do I just simply love working with that age but recognize, developmentally, the critical period is the prime time to introduce tools for self-soothing and self-healing.

As I move forward on my chosen path there are certain skills that I need to pick up along the way in order to best serve the children I work with. The first step will be my yoga instructor mentorship at Samdhana-Karana Yoga with my long-time, beloved teacher Pamela Higley where I will be working alongside her in the studio.  From my mentorship, I will expanded my knowledge of teaching through: observing Pamela's classes, making adjustments, working on sequencing, learning more of the business of yoga and how to integrate my aspirations into my yoga instruction.
I am confident that doing this mentorship will not only help me find ease in teaching but move that much closer to my distant (but not so far away) goal of becoming an Integrated Movement Therapy Practitioner. And this is where your much needed, much appreciated, help comes into play...

- $450 will go toward my mentorship program which will begin January 2016 and end March 2016 ($150/month). This will include, but is not limited to: attendance to one class per week (observing the first two classes and after that assisting in class, making adjustments, and teaching a portion or entire class); teaching one Community yoga class/month; monthly 2-hr group session and/or master class; and a commitment to a 30-day Sadhana practice.

- $150 will go toward travel expenses potential educational material costs (my mentor training is in Tacoma, I am in Seattle)

-$500 will go toward teaching materials (i.e. yoga mats, props, music, books and other children's yoga teaching materials such as the ones below)

-$400 will go to other yoga teacher trainings which are required to keep my RYT status

- The remaining $2000 dollars will go toward paying off my student debt from my 200-hour teacher training so that I am freed up financially to continue moving toward my goal of begining my IMT practitioner training

My goal is to have $500 raised by January so that I can take care of the cost of my mentorship program in full before it begins and the rest to be raised by March 21, 2016.

I want to thank all of the people who have supported me in my modest teaching journey thus far. I could not have even gotten this far without you (Yep, Mom, that means you). I am so lucky to have such a fantastic support system. With this, I want to thank anyone supporting me in this GoFundMe campaign. Without you I would not be able to attain my goals. You are immensely appreciated. Please let me know who you are so I can give you a good and proper person-to-person, "Thank you."

Much love, gratitude and respect,

Rebekah
