Rebuild historic Poile Zedek Shul

Donation protected

Poile Zedek has been helping the community for generations. We've had countless bar mitvahs, upsherons, bris' and shabbats here. It has been a place for those of all ages to study. They have allowed many organizations with young college students like myself to have a place to meet, study and learn Torah. Rabbi Mykoff has upheld that name of shul by doing just as it describes. He has helped with finding funding for our children to have a jewish education, and for basic necessaities to live. Now it is our turn to help. A fire erupted in our beloved shul right before shabbat on the 14th of cheshvan. All that was left is a shell of what once was  a magnificent historic place of worship. All but one Sefer Torah were destroyed in this horrific fire. This shul along with Rabbi Mykoff has been a savior to many of us that had immigrated to this country with so little in our pockets. Now is time to repay for all the gracious help we have received. Please donate anything in your capacity. B"H we will soon be able to rise from the ashes and celebrate in this magnificent shul again! Thank you.

Here is a little history according to their website
"Poile Zedek was initially founded as a mutual aid society on November 18, 1901 in the home of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Elfant, 25 Hiram St, New Brunswick. Originally known as the Independent Laborers' Benefit Association, most early congregants were from Russia or Poland. The congregation purchased its current home on Neilson Street in 1905. On August 19, 1923, the cornerstone ceremony was held and one year later, the present building was completed and began being used for services. At that time, the congregation changed its name to Poile Zedek, which means "doers of righteousness." The building was placed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places in 1995. The synagogue is listed on the national registry of historic places."
