ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
We are LGBTIQ refugees residing in Kakuma refugee camp in North western Kenya, the environment in the area is so hot since its a semi desert, it's a large camp hosting different refugee Nationalities from South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia and with other from the great lakes with some from Uganda, with a very Hostile host community of the Turkanas who preserve their cultural norms and diversities. Due to its concentration, it accommodates LGBTIQ refugees from different Nationalities with the Ugandans who are so out and proud and easily recognized by the in habitants of the camp since they come from a peaceful country with out any current crisis, with the clear detailed report we would want to inform you that the LGBTIQ refugees, the marginalized Minorities in this huge concentrated refugee camp are persecuted, discriminated and prejudiced because of their gender orientation. They (the natives) believe that it contradicts with their norms and cultural diversity and religion; amongst the population staunch Moslems and Christian supremacists tend to preach against the LGBTIQ persons of concern condemning their acts, such activities hence denying them chances of engagement in economic, spiritual and social welfare to improve their living standard. Such actions have left LGBTIQ persons of concern in great poverty and poor living conditions resulting into health issues.
This year by help of our Japanese friend Junko Shamida and the LGBTIQ Japanese friends gave a try to see how we can improve the economic standards of the LGBTIQ refugees in Kakuma refugee camp by engaging in home based projects since they tend to be persecuted in market out side with other refugee in mates in terms of competition for the survival of the fittest "The try support of the poultry pilot project "from Japan through the funds collected by one of the Japanese LGBTIQ friend from the Luganda-Japanese translated show of the Late David Kato, a Ugandan gay activist who died because of his sexual orientation. Gave us courage to start up a Mega poultry project to help in empowering the minorities from their protection area and it's aimed at feeding the most vulnerable like the ones who are HIV+ on medication. With illustrations of photos we have an active project on the ground that is successful 50chicks which have consumed 100000Japanse yen, right from the shelter, feeders and drinkers and feeds we would want to make it a Mega project. Your donations towards the success of the project will help in increasing output as the more birds we have the more returns and more profits to help improve our living conditions which are currently dire, especially harsh among the LGBTIQ persons of concern in Kakuma.
