UPDATE: Wow!! In only two days, we already reached our goal of $1,000!! Thank you to everybody who has donated so far, your generosity is really incredible and your support for this project will help the incoming family SO much!
To help even better meet the needs of the family and KRM, we've doubled our fundraising goal. Any excess money can go toward unforseen circumstances or be saved for further partnerships with KRM later this year!

A refugee is classified as someone who “has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence" and who "has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.” Today, there are a growing number of refugees, with 21.3 million worldwide dispersed throughout host countries in camps or in cities. Many find themselves in unsustainable living situations and apply for resettlement in another nation. In order to be accepted for resettlement, refugees must first undergo a long and arduous vetting process, averaging 18-24 months, and those who are lucky enough to be selected continue to face great challenges in starting over in a new country.

Right now, Centre College (CentrePeace, the Muslim Student Association, the Bonner Program, the Religious Life Office, and Centre Christian Fellowship), in partnership with various religious groups in the Danville Community (The Presbyterian Church of Danville, the Islamic Society of Danville, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Grace Presbyterian Church) and Kentucky Refugee Ministries, is working to help one of those families to create their new life here in Danville by providing financial support, transportation assistance, and other basic necessities. The family of five (two parents, two sons, and a daughter) will arrive on October 26th, so it is time now for the greater Centre and Danville community to come together in support of this family and of their hope for a brighter future.

The community is raising $3000 to help the family resettle here, and Centre College has committed to raising $1,000 of this amount. Please consider giving of your time and/or resources so that, together, we can make their dreams of a new life possible.
