Donation protected
What happened?
Fifteen people were hurt, including three who suffered critical injuries, in a bombing at a crowded Indian restaurant in Mississauga, an explosion that one resident who lives four kilometres away described as a “small earthquake.”
In a surveillance image released by Peel police, two men wearing walked into Bombay Bhel restaurant on 5035 Hurontario St. near Eglinton Ave., at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, May 24th, 2018.
The pair detonated an improvised explosive device before fleeing the scene. The explosion occurred as two separate birthday parties were going on inside the restaurant.
Relief Fund
All funds raised, except any GoFundMe processing fees, will be donated directly to the victims of the bombing to help pay for medical expenses not covered by OHIP, counselling and therapy costs, lost wages from time off work and to provide general help and support to the families of the victims after this terrible crime.
As of the most recent update of this fund, the Toronto Star has reported that we do not yet know the names of the victims or their families, or if the bombing is an act of terrorism, or a hate crime.
The target of $15,000 was set to provide $1,000 to each of the 15 injured persons currently reported.
The fundraising team respects the privacy of the victims but will work with media and local authorities to determine if any victims wish to share their names.
If we cannot locate all of the victims, any excess funds will be donated to a Mississauga based registered charity or returned to donors, depending on GoFundMe's policies.
