Repair the Polar Bear Habitat
Donation protected
On April 27th an extremely powerful storm hit Cochrane, Ontario, damaging our fencing and hotwire around 2 of our 4 Polar Bear Enclosures.
Although our polar bears Inukshuk, Ganuk and Henry were safely in their holding building at the time of the storm, they are now limited to 2 enclosures and don't have access to their big pool for swimming ... or the world's largest enclosure - the lake.
The Polar Bear Habitat does have insurance, however the deductible is $5,000, which is a huge sum for our small facility. Insurance also does not cover the additional work of our staff and Bear Keepers, but more importantly - cannot consider who really suffers from this event - our polar bears.
Funds will go to removing the dozens of trees on the fencing, repairing the posts, chain link and hot wire.
The sooner we can clear away the debris and repair the fence, the faster our beautiful boys can get back into all of their natural space.
Here's a video of what we want our bears to get back to as soon as possible ...
