Family Cycling Library
Donation protected
Hackney Family Cycling is a small community project that, alongside Carry Me Bikes (a local social enterprise), runs a Cycling Library, Family Cycle Rides and Tots and Cargobike sessions - all free of charge - to help get families cycling together.
UPDATE August 2017 - due to popular demand, we are keeping this page open for donations
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In April 2017 our Cycling Library storage unit was broken into and burgled and some of our equipment was stolen - a double Croozer child trailer, four rear Hamax bike seats, a Raleigh folding bike and a Globe ladies hybrid bike. We are insured but it is currently looking unlikely that they will all be covered as they were second hand & donated to us - though we are actively pursuing the insurers to claim for whatever we can.
We are totally gutted - these pieces of equipment were all donated by kind people, and although not individually worth huge amounts they are invaluable to the families who borrow them to enable them to get around with their children by bike, often for the first time.
Just the week before, the Brompton folding bike that Carryme Bikes uses to help us with the Library and our Family Bike Rides was also stolen, despite being locked with a Gold Sold Secure lock behind locked doors. Due to a technicality, it looks like we're not going to be able to claim on our insurance for this either :(
Any funds raised will go towards:
1. buying replacement equipment (we always aim to get ex-demo or second hand equipment, to make our funds go further)
2. improving our storage security
If we exceed our target we will invest in more equipment - as we already have demand outstripping supply despite only launching formally earlier this year.
We would also be hugely grateful for any donations of equipment - bike seats (front or back), trailers, tagalong bikes etc. Please contact us if you have any items to donate!
