Replacement MacBook for career goal

Donation protected
Hi Everyone! First off, I want to thank you for taking the time to check out my new app on GitHub! It means a lot to me!

I recently decided to switch career fields, from counseling to programming. I am learning to code by self-teaching. Though, recently I did try my hand at one of them handy dandy boot camps. During the boot camp, I quickly became perturbed. Has anyone else noticed…that every time you plug your iPhone into the MacBook, there were like…a bajillion and one popups that you have to close manually? Ain’t no one got time for that. So, I spent some time developing this nifty little kill switch.

So, my goal in creating this was to have this nifty little program run in the background, so that whenever I plugged my phone into my computer while running xCode, it would auto shut those popups. Which came in handy when I kept plugging and unplugging my phone because I have the attention span of a goldfish.

But, then…why the GoFundMe, you might be asking. Well, I’m glad you asked.

Like I said, I’m coming from a different field into the programming world. So, this computer had been everything to me in terms of creating a better future for myself. Had? Yes, had. I did a dumb, and trusted a stranger to watch my computer at the local library while I used the bathroom. Lo and behold, when I came back, my computer was gone and the stranger just had this herpderp look on their face. When I spoke to the staff at the library, they just kind of shrugged it off, saying they couldn’t do anything to help. Well, fak.

This really threw a wrench into my life. Now, for anyone who is familiar with the human services field, I am basically making pennies with my Master’s. So, in order for me to save up for a new MacBook, it would take approximately 2.5-3 years, where I cut out everything I can (and lets face it, the prospect of living off of nothing but ramen and my tears for the next 3 years sounds far from exhilarating). Oh yeah, don’t forget about paying off the loan I took out to pay for my MacBook in the first place…and the bootcamp.

I am super happy that I have had bad experiences of losing saved data in the past, so I had everything backed up to Git. And yes, I know there is already a Ruby script for something like this already named OverKill. My friend made sure I knew. But I still decided to follow through with releasing this, if not just because this is my first app that I created that wasn’t completely useless, as well as the start of my iOS/OSX development journey on the app store. Because I have the best naming skills (ie: sea rats (shrimp), snipsnaps (lobsters), squishy (pug)), and I didn’t want to divert all attention from Felix Krause, the Ruby script developer, I chose to keep the name the same.

This is where you come in, my lovely. If you liked this app, I would greatly appreciate any type of donation to help me get back on track to making more useful and practical applications to share with the community! Thank you again for taking the time to read this and utilize this application. Also, thank you so much for any donation, no matter the size.

Any extra money that is donated, after the purchase of a replacement computer, will be donated to STEM Kids, an organization dedicated to bridging the gap that many of our youth face during the transition from primary school into a STEM field.
