My brother Rabbi Moshe Chanowitz is the Chabad Rabbi in St Martin in the Caribbean Island.
He is stuck on the Island with his wife and 5 young children. The Island was caught in the eye of Hurricane Irma. The Island is in total devastation. People from his Community as well as many others lost their homes. There is no power on the Island.
His home is not livable. His family is staying in the synagogue which barely survived. He has a generater which will last him 1-2 days, after that he will have no food.
Update: Thank you everybody for all your care and concern. We are touched by the outpouring of support. At this time, the Chanowitzes are still on the island, and every effort is being made to evacuate them. When we last communicated with them, they decided that all funds raised will go to relief efforts on the ground. It will be put towards getting them the aid they all so desperately need: food, shelter, basic supplies, etc. In the aftermath of the hurricane, there are so many that need immediate assistance and your funds will be vital in ensuring they get the help they need. They've been busy the last two days fielding calls from anxious relatives and offering food and support to passerby. With your help they will be able to better help their community begin the recovery and restoration after so much devastation and retain some sense of normalcy. Thank you!
