Restore Dennis Wixon Courts

A little bit of context
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. It’s great for youngsters, seniors and wheelchair bound players, with its smaller courts and cheaper play. It’s as social as it is active. It becomes a saving grace for isolated and physically challenged people.
But there’s a problem
The demand for places to play has caused neighboring towns to restrict admission to residents only.
We’ve got some court space in our town, at the Wixon School on Old Chatham Road. It was a beautiful four court park for the nearby school - 20 years ago. With changing demographics and budget cuts, maintenance was neglected.
The court went from cracked, to muddy, to locked and abandoned. We now have three foot trees overtaking the weeds on the former court surface.
Here’s what we’re doing about it
We found a sympathetic ear in the school system. We got the town to take over the property to lift the school’s burden. And we found organizations to fund a majority of the money we need.

The estimate for court repair is $280,000...
We were devastated until the Community Preservation Committee agreed to fund 85% of the project. Then the town agreed to provide another 10%, but only if we could raise the balance.
We need to raise $14,000 by the town meeting in October, or this project dies and the money committed goes away.
We’ve formed the “Friends of Dennis Pickleball” to organize and guide this fundraising effort. Our corporate status has been confirmed by the state. Our not-for-profit status is confirmed with the I.R.S.
