As most everyone knows, Houston has been devastated by Harvey. I am reaching out because you can be a part of my student's year, future, and hope.
My name is Margot Cordova. I am a first year teacher in Houston through Teach For America. This is a program that places individuals in high need, low-income areas to provide a quality education for students. I graduated from Texas A&M in May and moved back home to work in a community that is dear to my heart.
I am teaching 4th grade writing and science at Robinson Elementary on the far East side of town. Robinson Elementary is one of 9 out of 306 schools in HISD beginning September 25th because the damages are so extensive. Many of my students have lost absolutely everything. We don't even have pencils for our first day. Desks, supplies, smart boards, science equipment, hygiene products, personal items- all lost, so ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING HELPS!
These students are extremely bright and just need the resources, which you can be a part of. The demographic of my school is 75% LatinX, 24% African American and 1% White. The majority of students are English Language Learners and almost 90% receive free and reduced priced lunch. This community is rich in love and service, and I'm honored to play a small role in their area.
The school is the safest place these kiddos can be, and I currently can't provide that- without help. Despite the loss there is so much hope right now , please consider donating and being a member in the movement of hope.
