Restore Our Veterans Memorial Park

Donation protected
A community led effort has been launched to raise $17,000 for the decorative, ornamental fencing for the Port Angeles Veterans Memorial Park. Recently our Veterans Memorial Park has been vandalized and has fell into a sad state of affairs. Like many Veterans Park, Monuments and Cemeteries across our communities, there comes a time that we have to take measures to protect these treasures. Our time has come to put a beautiful ornamental fencing to compliment the historic area around the Liberty Bell area and restore dignity and honor to our park.

The Liberty Bell is an exact replica of the original Liberty Bell located in Philadelphia, PA and was forged at the same foundry.  The wonder lady, Marguerite Miller-Hartness was an employee at the Port Angeles Police Department, left in her personal estate $100,000 to the City of Port Angeles to create the configuration of the Park today, she wanted to create “a little town center with benches and gardens”. Renovation was completed in 1997 and includes several memorial plaques some dating as early as 1947. When you visit the park and memorial to our Veterans, close your eyes and imagine the voices, the conversations, the joy and the tears that have been shared at this site.  The Friday monthly Bell Ringing Ceremony is held to honor those veterans that have recently passed.
