Return to Palestine

Yousef and Rachel attempted to return to Palestine to visit family, only to be turned back by Israeli officials at the border. Yousef (Palestinian citizen) and Rachel (U.S. citizen) are both community members and residents in Asheville, NC. They had planned to travel to Palestine for an extended family visit, but when attempting to cross the Israeli-controlled border on 22 February, they were told that Rachel would not be allowed a visa at that time and to contact the Israeli coordination office.
After submitting an application from the Israeli office to enter the West Bank, Rachel received notice that she would be granted a permit, on the condition that a $14,000 bond is paid.
Rachel and Yousef have been unexpectedly staying in Jordan for an extended period of time since Rachel was turned back by the Israeli officials at the border. They will be staying in Jordan until the bond is paid and approved by the Israeli officials.
Community support is needed to raise the required bond money so that Rachel and Yousef will be able to enter Palestine together for a family visit.
