Reunite my student and his brother
Donation protected
I am lucky to teach at a public high school for recent immigrants in San Francisco. In my role as an advisor, I try to respond to a diversity of student needs, and this week one of my seniors (who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons) came to me with a very urgent one. His 17-year-old younger brother is being held in an immigration detention center in central Florida, and the family doesn’t have the funds to pay for his release and transport to San Francisco. The brother left Guatemala to join his older brothers in San Francisco, but he was picked up and detained by immigration after crossing the border a month ago. My student and his older brother (the only family members in the U.S.) have filed all the necessary paperwork to get the younger brother released, the paperwork has been accepted, and they expect the younger brother to be released this week. However, despite both of them working full time (yes, my straight-A student with perfect attendance also works 40 hours a week), the brothers don’t have the $1,100 to cover the cost of the plane tickets for both the younger brother and the required federal personnel who must legally accompany him on the flight to San Francisco. They need your help. Please consider donating to help reunite these brothers!
