Rice appeal for Karen refugees
Donation protected
In February 2019 I will be travelling to Northern Thailand. Once again I will be purchasing rice, non perishable food, general hygeine products & blankets. Ive been very fortunate over the past few years to have had amazing friends & customers donate to this cause so close to my heart. However this is the first time I've created a Go Fund Me page. I thought it would be a good idea as donations may possibly be tax deductible. Even a donation of $25 is enough to purchase a 45kg bag of rice, enough to feed 15 people for one month, so every little bit counts! I will be purchasing the rice myself as I do every year & my wonderful friend Maliwan who visits the camps regularly will be transporting it along with other volunteers. So please rest assured that EVERY dollar goes directly to purchasing the rice & other items.
The camps name that I have supported for the last 2 years is called Etu Tha. There are 355 families in the camp (2550 people). Last year the UN provided funds to the refugee camp, however they have now ceased providing funds. The refugees in the camp have fled their previous homes, due to conflict with the Burmese army in Karen state. The Burmese army have killed many people and seek to take the land from the Karen people, confiscating productive land which they use for farming. Within the camps it is extremely difficult for the refugees to provide for themselves as what little land they have to farm on is now often littered with land mines. There is also a dormitory in the camp with 33 children that we support. These children are most in need, lacking even the most basic necessities such as food, clothing and hygiene products like soap. It is especially difficult for these refugees to move from the camp to Thailand because Thailand has refused them entry into the country on the premise that it is too expensive to maintain an increase of refugees. Thank you so much for your help in creating hope for these innocent families.
