As the Christmas season approaches, many of us get caught up in the Christmas Spirit and the
hustle and bustle that surrounds us this magical time of year.
While preparing for joyous holiday celebrations with your friends and family, it’s important to stop and reflect on the joys and blessings in your own life, while being aware that others may not be so fortunate.
As many of you know, Ricky Melendez was the innocent victim of a very tragic car accident involving a group of teens in Pinellas County, Florida who were evading police in the early morning hours of August 6, 2017 after a two day crime spree. Ricky was on his way to work as Dairy Manager at Sprouts Market in Palm Harbor, FL. As he was traveling the short distance to work at 4am on Sunday morning, he was struck by the teen’s stolen car at approximately 120 m.p.h.
His survival is nothing short of a miracle. He suffered injuries to his leg, ankle, wrist, ribs, shoulder, and had internal bleeding. He has undergone several procedures and surgeries and has a long road of recovery ahead of him. In addition, Ricky lost his car, has been unable to return to work, and has needed extensive assistance physically.
During this time, justice has not been served and Ricky has just been notified his Victims Compensation case, which he applied for 4 months ago, has not yet been approved and may take several more weeks. As you can imagine, this has taken a toll on Ricky financially and emotionally. Ricky is a fighter and such a hard worker, he had been working overtime prior to the accident, saving for a new car, now he faces hundreds of thousands in medical bills, no car, no money coming in to help with any of his living expenses.
So, as we enter this special season of giving, please consider making a donation to the Ricky Melendez recovery fund.
Many people see the Christmas giving/angel trees in the department stores, or Toys for Tots, among many other charitable organizations that reach out during this time of the year. We are reaching out, on behalf of Ricky, to ask if you would consider supporting this amazing young survivor. Every dollar makes a difference and will help with his ongoing medical expenses and living expenses until he can heal and get back to work.
In the words of author Toni Sorenson, “Christmas is about giving from the heart more than giving from the
store.”
Be blessed and take care of one another.
Happy Safe Holidays to you all...
The family of Ricky Melendez truly thanks you.
