Cafe w/ a side of Recovery Capital

Make a donation. Make a difference. Restore a life.
Hi, my name is Lisa Gladwell. As someone in recovery, I’ve not had a mood altering drink or drug in over 15 years. Grateful to be where I am, I’m an active volunteer, advocate, teacher, student, and promoter of hope to the recovery community. And now, you can be too.
We’re in the midst of an opioid epidemic, which is taking our children, parents, siblings, friends, neighbors and colleagues from us. There’s an abundance of resources for prevention and treatment. But what happens when a person gets clean/sober? What's next? How do we prevent relapse and provide guidance to those on the very difficult precipice of change?
In a word: Support.
Rise Up Café will bring together the support, resources and wisdom of recovery to those seeking a life free from mood altering substances.
This Café is a start-up coffee shop that, in addition to serving the neighborhood, will serve as a hub for the Recovery Community in north central Bergen County, New Jersey.
The Café will be staffed by those in early recovery: the formerly “unemployable,” moving from tax takers to tax payers. The staff will be friendly and trained. The goal? To have employees gain/regain/improve their skills, responsibility, work history, network and financial position - their Recovery Capital. It’s not intended to serve as a final career destination: instead, a starting point for a future of independence and infinite possibilities.
Not your ordinary café.
The Café is more than a place that provides great food and beverages. It’s also provides:
*Meals, discussion, sharing of information
*Opportunities to showcase local musicians, artists and other talent
*A nurturing environment where those in long-term recovery will meet those in early recovery to help newly sober people develop Recovery Capital
*A judgment-free zone: a safe place for everyone to be vulnerable
Your donation goes a long way.
The funds raised from this campaign are to be used toward the start-up costs and improvements necessary for a start-up food/beverage establishment. Construction expenses, cooking appliances and equipment, furniture, computers, software, fixtures, and supplies.
A location search is currently underway, therefore, funds are needed today.
Every dollar raised will go toward rebuilding and possibly saving countless lives.
If you have questions, advice for me, a desire to volunteer etc., please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your heartfelt compassion, generosity and support!
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -Edmund Burke
Lastly, please help spread the word!
