Support our robotics Camp in Guyana

K12youthcode  in association with the Office Of The First Lady of Guyana, and  Noble House Seafoods [Guyana] will host 4 Lego Mindstorm Robotics programming camps in Guyana during the months of July and August of 2016.

Our team needs to raise funds to purchase 15 Lego Mindstorm robotics sets for the STEM Camps planned for Guyana in the Summer of 2016.Our camps will be instructed by co-founders of the Pinetart Inc. mobile app development teenage technology team, led by  Stanford University CS Major, Ima Christian and MIT Mites Alum Asha Christian, robotics expert Caleb and Joshua Christian. The team plans to host 100 youth in Guyana for the July 2016 Robotics camp.

Students will learn how to build, program and problem solve with Lego Mindstorm robots, how to work together to solve problems and how to overcome obstacles and challenges as they learn a new craft.
Lego mindstorm building and programming teaches logic and problem solving in a fun environment.  Lego teaches Math– Although not always a student favorite, math is applied to the robot building when it comes to programming it. Geometry, particularly circle geometry is necessary to accurately get the robot to rotate the wheels the requested distance.
Robotics– Who doesn’t want to build a robot and take over the world? Or at least the LEGO world!

Mechanics– Part of the robot building has to do with putting the robot together with the technic pieces. How those fit together and work efficiently is a big part of the task.

Physics– Along with efficiency, you need a stable structure. We spend a lot of time learning about which designs are the most stable.

Fun– There is no shortage of fun when it comes to exploring with a LEGO Mindstorms kit.

To make this possible, we need your help.  We will need to purchase 15 Lego Mindstorm sets at a cost of $350 each.   Our camps will be located at Queens College, Tiger Bay, Lusignan and Buxton and will teach students how to build and program robotics.  We will distribute the sets among afterschool recreation organizations particpating in our program.

At the end of the (4) one week camps, we plan a fun competition among the students and will reward them with certificates and prizes.  Our goal is to leave clubs in place for the students to practice and improve enough to participate in international competition.

Two camps are scheduled to run from July 25th - July 29th and two from August 1st - August 5th of 2016. We need your help right now to purchase the sets and have them shipped to Guyana in time for this amazing event.

We thank you in advance for your support in bringing STEM education to children of Guyana.  Please feel free to sponsor our program in anyway you can.  We will also need t-shirts, lunches, and prizes so please share this within your networks.  The youth of Guyana would like to thank you for your consideration and to share that any contribution made, counts.
