BIO
Rondel Da’twaun Clark, 26, of Sutton, MA, formerly of Westborough, was a loving son, brother, uncle, friend, teammate, fighter, captain, warrior, and leader.  He passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, after collapsing from exhaustion during the third round of his 2nd amateur MMA fight.  He was the son of Arianne Clark and Joseph Afutu.

BACKGROUND
Rondel was an exemplary leader both on and off the athletic field. Under his leadership as team captain, the Westborough High School Rangers had their best season in 15 years, staking a winning record and making the playoffs for the first time since 2002. He won his first MMA bout by TKO 25 seconds into the first round, and was undoubtedly winning his second fight before collapsing.

Rondel was not only an explosive and talented athlete, but pushed each and every one of his teammates to better themselves, regardless of who they were and what role they played on the team.  He led by example, and was unwavering in holding others accountable to his extremely high standards and clear moral compass.

In addition to sports, Rondel was passionate about music. He was a song writer, poet, rapper, and a published recording artist, under the name "Da'twaun" which is searchable on Soundcloud. He often rapped about events that happened to him, and his religious faith.

More than anything, Rondel had a warm personality that could light up any room with his radiating smile, contagious belly laugh, and incredible sense of humor. He won high school superlatives for Best Smile and Best Laugh, and was always giving hugs and telling the people who meant most to him that he loved them. Rondel had an extremely keen sense of morals and values in which everyone could trust. He touched many people’s lives and would do anything for anyone.

"Wish It, Dream it, Do it" is a mantra that Rondel instilled in many of us. His legacy, and this mantra, will continue to live on through this scholarship.

ADMINISTRATION
The selection committee for this scholarship will consist of a group of Rondel's closest friends and family who knew him best.

A one-time withdrawal will be made from the initial funds to assist Rondel's family in paying medical expenses not covered by insurance, expenses associated with Rondel's memorial service, and to set up a rainy day fund for his 4 nephews and nieces, which will be used at the discretion of his mother, Arianne. All remaining funds will go towards the scholarship.
