UPDATE!! On Tuesday September 23rd we were advised that previous four rounds of chemo did not do anything to the cancer. The site where the cancer is grown has now more doubled in size. After another biopsy we learned that the cancer has turned into another form of cancer.
The cancer changed from Hodgkin's to none Hodgkin's, which is a rare occurrence. The doctors said his cancer is in a grey area. The treatment was determined to be a hospital stay for five days to receive 24 hour chemo. (Devastating but we believe in God for healing and a speedy recovery).
Today is say three and my dad is in good spirits 9/30/15.
Greetings everyone!! My name is Essence Wilkins I am the daughter of Ronnie C. Wilkins Sr (yes i am a daddies girl) :)
I am setting up this Go Fund Me account in the efforts to help my parents offset some of the costly medical cost associated with my fathers cancer treatment.
My father has always lived a healthy lifestyle. He walks about two miles a day, and works out at Planet Fitness or the YMCA throughout the week and weekend. But that was not enough to keep him from being affected by the "cancer bug."
On February 25th, 2015 my dad went in for a minor surgery to have a lymphnode (that was previously diagnose benign) removed from his underarm. While in recovery the doctor consults with my mom and advises her on what took place in the surgery as well as his concerns. Not only did he remove the lymphnode, once he had my dad opened there were five other attachments to the backside of his lymphnodes. He told her he needed to send them off to be tested for cancer because they did not look good in his eyes. My mom called me in panic to tell me the news, although he is just going through a test it was devastating to me.
On March 3rd, 2015 the test results are back. The doctor calls my dad back into the office to discuss what was found. The doctor delivered the news that my dad has a form of Hodgskins Lymphoma Cancer. From tnis point he would need chemo as a treatment, give bone marrow to see what stage its in, and possibly radiation. Nothing that any of us expected, but who are we to question God's plan.
March 9th, 2015 my dad went into surgery to have the port device put inside him that will allow him to recieve the Chemo treatments. He said it left him very sore and to this day he is still uncomfortable. March 10th, 2015 I take him to the Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg, SC there he will give blood and give bone marrow. As the doctor is talking to him, letting him know theorocess i begin to breakdown. I could not handle what the doctor was explaining to us. I know I was to had been strong but I instantly got weak and pretty much cried the entire visit in the waiting room. After he was all done he could barely walk straight, he was in moderate pain. March 11th, 2015 he went to the Spartanburg Regional Heart Center to have Echocardiogram done to check his heart to see if his heart is strong enough to handle the Chemo treatments. March 13th, 2015 we are back at the Heart Center my dad had to go through a two hour Petscan to ensure there was no more cancer detected in his body. Results for all test were due back that following Tuesday March 17th, 2015. This will be the final hour of the anxiety of the "unknown."
March 17th, 2015 is here and we are all on pins and needles. This is the moment of truth for the family, results day. March 18th, 2015 he had a Pulmonary Function Test to test the strength of his lungs, which cleared that his lungs were in good standing.
The results read that he was in stage one of cancer and all other test came back normal and that we will go through the Chemo immediately. He is schedule for two months of Chemo, and following will have daiation. We meet with the radiation team on March 25, 2015 to discuss his radiation plan as well as get educated on any side effects it may cause.
March 19th, 2015, he had his first Chemo treatment that lasted five hours. When he came home he was so tired, really sluggish just not himself. He told me how he sat in a recliner and watch as all these bags of medication treatment was being pumped in his body.
Today he had some strength that he was able to preach the word in church. Im believing in God that my dad will be delivered from this and share his story with many others that may endure.
Im asking for assistance in helping my family with the hardship of this evasive treatment and process. Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers.
With love
