Rose Cafe/Montecito Mudslide Loss

My name is Angelique Barajas and I'm from Santa Barbara, California. I, along with my family, am reaching out to you all for help for my uncle, Ralph "Lalo" Barajas. Our family is lovingly known around Santa Barbara for our two Rose Cafe locations; My uncle is the owner of the Rose Cafe on the Mesa. Sadly, he lost his home and his partner of close to 20 years, Peter Fleurat, in the tragic mudslide in Montecito on Tuesday, January 9th. Lalo and Peter's home was lifted off of its foundation with them inside and they ended up separated. Lalo was rescued and taken to the hospital, lucky to be able to walk away with a sprained neck and cuts and bruises all over his body. Unfortunately, Lalo was informed Wednesday afternoon that Peter had been found on Tuesday morning but did not survive. This devastating incident has left Lalo with nothing but the clothing he was wearing when he was rescued...no home, no car, nothing. After being such a prominent part of Santa Barbara for so many years, customers and friends who have heard of his loss are asking what they can do to help and what Lalo needs. The family decided that setting up this fundraiser would be the easiest way for everyone's generosity to be received. Donations will go directly towards not only the basics for everyday life such as clothing, shoes and food, but also the major expenses he's about to have: funeral expenses for his partner, Peter, flights and hotels for Peter's family so that they can attend his funeral, medical expenses for his hospital stay, a new car, and most of all, replacing his home. We want Lalo to be able to take some time off of work so that he can grieve. Your donations allow him that time and ensure he gets back on his feet. Our family is so grateful for the outpouring of love and support we've been receiving during this difficult time. We are proud to be a part of this community!
