Ruby's life as an  energetic, able-bodied teen, full of friendships, cello and piano CM level 10 musicianship came to a standstill in 2017.  Her life took a 180 degree turn that altered her entire world. Ruby suffered a spontaneous brain hemorrhage in 2017.  She has worked hard to regain some of her physical independence and connect with people who appreciate her individuality and accept her physicality.

Ruby's life has been reshaped by her injury, paused to regroup, but she is slowly uncovering new interests. She has immersed herself into the adaptive sport of seated shot put through the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) inaugural track and field clinic this past winter.  Ruby joined her high school track team and will attend the prestigious Arcadia International track meet in April 2019.  She is also qualified for the state track and field championship in Clovis, California.

Ruby met other para athletes through CAF and practiced with the San Diego Ducks youth sled hockey team.  The para athletes and their parents welcomed Ruby warmly.  Involvement with the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation lead Ruby to try indoor skydiving and supported the organization and rode her three-wheeler at the Foundation's 5K fundraiser last month.

Ruby is an inspirational teen on target to graduated with her class of 2020 with credit for high school instruction while hospitalized. It will be a milestone, especially with a 4.0 GPA.  Her latest goal is to step out of her comfort zone and form new friendships and explore careers choices.  Accessible travel and post-secondary education occupy her thoughts because high school graduation is on the horizon.

Ruby faces additional medical procedures, therapies to help her relearn to walk, eat and improve her fine motor abilities.  Ongoing doctor's appointments stemming from her brain injury. She will require a full-time aide in college which not be covered by insurance.  Please help Ruby remain on her life journey toward fulfillment of current and future goals.  Thank you for reading Ruby's story.
