We are a 3 generation family of 10 living on a coconut plantation in Fiji. We grow our own food, harvest coconuts, dry the meat (copra) and sell to the local mill. Our boss bought the property 25 years ago and provides us with jobs to keep our family going. One of our jobs is to help with guests of the 3 bure (cottage) rentals on property. We have lived here for 23 years.
The problem is that all 4 buildings, including our main residences, got smashed by the biggest, worst hurricane in the history of Fiji and the southern hemisphere on 20 February 2016! We would be homeless except that we were able to take refuse in the bosses house that is still standing and who is away at the moment. We lost our clothing, household goods, furniture, appliances, cook wares and utensils. We also lost our washing machine and other tools.
We need the money to rebuld our house and replace all the lost stuff so our children can continue their education and we can pick up the pieces to provide for our parents. We also need to repay the money we have been able to borrow from relatives who desperately need their money back. Also one car got flooded and needs repairs.
The sooner you are able to donate, the better off we will be. It is not easy living with no flooring, kitchenwares, or transportation.
Our boss is retired and has little money to send. Some bookings had to cancel and money had to be refunded. They have sent what they can but cannot provide all that is necessary. Your generous donations will give us needed hope for a future and hopefully this property can recover and continue with rentals so our jobs remain secure. We will be so very greatful for your help!
