George's Journey

THE STORY
This is George. I'd like to share with you a little about George's Journey so far...
Late in the evening of May 15th, Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue received a phone call from a women who was fishing in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. She noticed a group of teenagers with a Huggies diaper box. They tossed it in the creek and ran away laughing.
Curious, she went over to the box. To her suprise she found a young Muskrat. He was barely moving. She immediately called the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry who directed her to our wildlife rehabilitation centre.
Upon arrival to Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue during his physical examination we noticed exactly what had happened to this poor animal.
The sides of his mouth had been cut, his teeth were broken and he had signficant damage to his left eye.
We here at the rescue are left speechless. As a wildlife rehabber, this is a situation that you hope you never come accross. We truly believe in the kind treatment of all living creatures. Seeing this helpless animal abused and neglected is absolutely heartbreaking... to say the very least.
Here is what we know...
George has extensive injuries and is currently under veterinary care. He has pulled through what was an incredibly tough night but we are taking it day by day as he is not in stable condition. Presently, George's vet bills look as though they are going to cost approximately $3,000.
In addition to his vet bills, we know that George will be in our care for at least 3 months if he is able to pull through this difficult time.
Here is what we don't know...
What is the next step for George in his journey?
As we learn more we will post updates on him so please stay tuned.
WHY GO FUND ME?
We are asking for your help today because George can not. Today, we are his voice, and George deserves a second chance at life.
At Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue, we love and care for each and every animal that has come through our door. As a wildlife rescue, funding is extremely limited as we recieve no funding support from the government. We are Durham Region's ONLY wildlife rehabilitation centre. We operate out of a passion and love for all living creatures. We consider ourselves fortunate to be able to live out our life's passion - providing aid to animals where without human intervention there would be little hope for their survival.
Today and everyday, we know that without you and your support, we would not be able to care for wildlife the way we do.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
1. Donate to our gofundme page to support George's vetrenary bills, and help give him a fighting chance
2. Share his post on social media to bring awareness to animal cruelty
3. If you witness ANY acts of animal cruelty, please report it!
4. We understand that not everyone is able to make a monetary donation, however, if you are looking to donate goods to Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue, please be aware that we are always in need of the following items: Towels and Linens, Dog and Cat Food (dry and wet), Water and Feed Bowls, Small Animal Cages (such as cages for birds, hamsters or rabbits), Building Supplies (such as lumber, nails, screws or wire mesh)
5. Be kind to all living creatures
GRATITUDE
First off, we would like to thank the hundreds of thousands of people who have read, liked and shared our post about this incredible creature that came into our care recently. It is a great feeling to know that Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue has the support of our community. Thank you.
We have received hundreds of emails and messages asking for an update on George. We apologize for not being able to get back to all of you but we are a one women show with a small army of volunteers. We do not have full time staff to man the phones, social media and emails.
We understand everyone's anger and frustration about the cruel acts that have happened to George. Please remember although we may be angry, we need to rise above and not speak hatefully. Its hard. I understand. I have witnessed first hand the tradgey that has happened.
Instead lets put our thoughts toward the speedy recovery of George.
