Artimus’ surgery & aftercare
Artimus is my parents 4 yr. old Golden Retriever & the love of my mom’s life.
Artimus has been my mom’s constant companion & emotional support through one of the most difficult times of her life…becoming disabled. My dad got him for her when her doctors refused to release her to return to the job that she loved, just over 4 yrs. ago. He has helped her through severe depression, among many other crazy emotions. My parents almost lost everything, including their home, through their fight for SSD, but Artimus was always there, bringing mom his “wubby”, putting his head on her knee & a smile on her face. He has been my mom’s lifeline.
A few days ago, Artimus was playing in the back yard with mom & dad’s rescued Black Lab, Hercules & somehow managed a complete tear of the ACL in his left back knee. He has been unable to use that leg since.
My parents are finding it to be financially straining, especially just a couple weeks before Christmas. They never ask for help with anything, even when they need it most. Mom’s disability check just covers their monthly mortgage & my dad works crazy hours every week, with barely a day off, to cover the rest of their bills, mom’s surgical procedures, doctors & medications.
Artimus’ surgery is scheduled for December 21st & going to be upwards of $2500 & we have been told by the vet that “this is the good news”.
My parents were able to get approved for Care Credit to cover his surgery up front, but they are going to have to pay that back monthly on top of physical therapy, medications & assistive devices for Artimus & my mom.
Artimus will require physical therapy for up to 6 mos. A therapy package will be $840, up front, for 3 months. This will be a total of $1680 for the full 6 months.
He will require a support harness immediately after surgery that costs $175 for the size needed.
There will also be a “possibility” of him needing a knee brace. This will be anywhere from $350-$700.
My parents have both had dogs their entire lives & have ever encountered anything like this. They have always treated their dogs with the best of love & care that I’ve ever seen anyone do for their fur-babies. It is definitely a shock to us all to find how expensive an injury like this can cost.
We are trying to raise $5500 to cover the following costs:
--TPLO surgery-$2500
--Physical Therapy-$1680
--Emergency and Office Visit fees
-- Medications
--and additional associated costs
--We have padded the amount a bit to cover the 5% fee from Go Fund Me and the 3% processing fee.
Thank you for reading.
May love, light & good vibes be yours!
