Support Informed Consent

In October of 2013 I was unjustly dismissed from Baker College's nursing program.  The reason was "aggressive" and "oppositional" behavior in class.  I filed suit for breach of contract in April of 2015.  This is a first impression case for the state of Michigan and will prove to be costly against a for-profit college.

During my Pediatric/Obstetric rotation we were being instructed to coerce, mislead, and make threats to patient's who refused immunizations.  I am not against patient autonomy.  Whether a patient consents or refuses a vaccine is not my business.  What is my business however, is how the instructor's were going about teaching students to gain complaince when a patient has already refused.   Michigan is one of few states that recognize  Informed Refusal for the patient.

This article below has the orignal published motion filed with Genesse Circuit Court in April of 2015

During pretrial discovery, we have deposed the administrators, where the Director of Nursing shows complete contempt for me and it is obvious that no matter what I did, I had a target on my back from day 1 of nursing school.  We also received emails between instructor's and the DON where they are sad that I was passing Nursing Fundamentals.  This was displayed by a well known emoticon " :( ".   This was 6 months prior to the "aggressive" and "oppositional" behavior that caused the dismissal.

We also read emails where my clinical instructor noted that I was intelligent but did not "fit in" with my peers because I was "standoffish" and worked alone.  However, she also noted that I was quick to help my peers when needed, I was an advocate for my patient's, and my care was wonderful.  I was one of the oldest students in my nursing class.  It wasn't that I was standoffish, but I was serious about my educational goals.

Another email showed that the DON was making fun of me because I had emailed and asked to meet with her because I wanted to continue to develop my professional nursing skills.  She mentioned that I only wanted to meet so that I could look like a victim and I had no idea what was coming my way.

We just had our first pre-trial victory in court this week.  See Press Release story below.  This is a costly lawsuit and any help to preserve informed consent, and prevent private colleges from bullying from behind the scenes and single-handedly destroying my career as a nurse would be greatly appreciated.  All donations will go directly to legal counsel Phillip Ellison.
