SACAC Awareness Walk and Fundraiser
Donation protected
Last September I organized a fundraising walk to raise awareness and donations for the Southern Alberta Children Advocacy Center. The walk was planned to cover 100km over 2 days, but unfortunately injuries literally stopped me in my tracks at the end of the first day, after walking 50km in 11 hours. I plan to complete the second half of the walk this Saturday, June 17th, 2017.
Similar in function to the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Center in Calgary, the SACAC would provide a central hub for all of the agencies and services involved when a child becomes the victim of sexual abuse. This may mean that the family or guardians, with the victim, can see all services and/or agencies necessary over the course of a day instead of months, and at one safe and comfortable location.
The first time around we raised nearly $1500.00 with the help of a $5.00 text to donate service and a very generous donation from our local Alberta Teachers' Association of $1000.00. My goal for the second half is to raise another $500.00 so that this walk will have raised a total of $2000.00 for the SACAC.
As a teacher and mother to an elementary age son, I feel raising awareness and funds for a center thats sole purpose is to help child victims get the help they need, more efficiently and with the least amount of stress possible, is a cause that everyone would feel good about supporting.
Thank you so much for your donation!
